Collaborative Tools

Aiming to provide common tools to facilitate or improve field data acquisition and provide research facilities to the O-LiFE community; the collaborative tools offer a set of tools and makes the available via the O-LiFE website

Environmental Trends Monitoring Bulletin

O-LiFE has mobilized a highly diversified team to define Key Environmental Variables (KEV) in priority themes covering water, biodiversity, soil, atmosphere and environmental risks in continental and marine areas.  Meetings occurred in Beirut, Lebanon in November 2014 and in Marseille, France in October 2015 to assess the state of environment. The bilateral scientific exchange resulted in an agreed upon set of variables to be regularly fed with field and processed data. The identified variables will be used as long-term benchmarks to assess the environmental condition of the Mediterranean Basin.  KEV data and trend information will soon be published in a yearly bulletin.

Fauna Portal

O-Life has initiated the creation of a fauna portal “I SPOT Nature” for nature fans to post and share their field experience. The portal will bring science at hands reach to people in any easy, friendly and interactive way as it will be accessed through a free android application and it capitalize on the surging rise of smart phone usage and social media applications. Through “I SPOT Nature” people will be able to experience and share real life nature experiences thus promoting nature and wildlife conservation among the general public. This application will not only support the development of a rich fauna biodiversity database for Lebanon, but also contribute to the dissemination of knowledge to a wide range of people and improve nature-based experience.  In addition, “I SPOT Nature” will be linked to existing fauna database in Lebanon, which in their current status are not easily accessible. Information and data from “I SPOT Nature” will serve as an important tool for surveying and monitoring key indicator species of environmental change.

Flora Portal

O-LiFE developed the required adaptations to integrate an existing Lebanese flora portal developed by Université Saint Joseph-Lebanon (USJ) into Tela Botanica’s “carnet en ligne” (CEL) which has allowed for an effective and accessible tool to collect and manage botanical observations around the world by both professional and amateur botanists. The developed adaptation has provided a platform to collect, input and access information on Lebanese flora species as well as to share information with botanist networks worldwide. Data and information from the portal can be analyzed to guide the process of identifying important plant areas as well as developing the botany field in Lebanon and the Mediterranean Basin.
